Javid minded to send Commissioners to Northamptonshire CC

Communities Secretary Sajid Javid has announced action to ensure that Northamptonshire County Council improves its financial management, requesting proposals on possible local government restructuring.

In a letter to Andrew Quincey, acting chief executive of the council, Javid said that he was minded to send commissioners in to the council to take direct control over the authority’s financial management and reporting processes, following recent discoveries of poor management and a lack of budgetary control.

Javid said: “The findings of the independent report were extremely serious and I am proposing decisive action to ensure that local people receive the high quality services they need and deserve.”

Northamptonshire County Council has 10 days to respond before the Javid will make his final decision.
