Council considering selling new £53m headquarters

Northamptonshire County Council have proposed a plan to sell its new £53 million One Angel Square headquarters, which officially opened in October.

If approved, the council would then see the building leased back over a 25 year period and use the funds to help fund social care and other service transformation.

The office complex, which replaced 12 separate offices, is already saving £53,000 a week on reduced running costs alone.

Robin Brown, county council cabinet member for finance said: “Our financial challenge is severe and ongoing and therefore we need to explore all avenues of funding that is available to us to fund our statutory services. This arrangement would see substantial capital receipts which would make a significant funding injection for our core services. And of course we would remain in One Angel Square for a substantial period of time so we could still get the benefits from this modern, flexible working environment at the heart of the town centre.”
