Welsh recycling rates highest in UK

Additionally, seven Welsh councils hit the 58 per cent recycling target a year early. The Welsh Local Government Association applauded the figures, but were quick to warn that improving recycling rates would become more challenging in the future

Cllr Andrew Morgan, of the Welsh Local Government Association, said: “Throughout Wales new schemes are being put in place as our recycling and wider waste management services continue to evolve to meet new Welsh Government targets, and this constant innovation by our local councils has seen the recycling rate for Wales rise from just 10 per cent in 2005 to 56 per cent in 2014/15.

“This is an extraordinary achievement not just by local councils in developing new services, but on the part of our local communities who are engaging, changing their habits and adapting to new ways of managing their household waste.”
