Record numbers register to vote in last minute rush

The figures show that 485,012 people registered in the final 24 hours of registration, with 469,000 digital applications received. The final total of voters registered is not expected to be known until after the general election, with local authorities taking time to put together their electoral rolls.

However, it has been publicised that the 137,400 registrations made by 16-24 year olds on Monday, is believed to have taken the total number of young people thought to have signed up since June to 2,131,017. Additionally, almost 10,000 registrations on Monday were received from British citizens overseas.
