Preston Council has approved plans for Tram Power Ltd to build a pilot tram line, costing £1 million.
The plans involve constructing 0.8 miles (1.25km) of tracks on the former Preston to Longridge railway line. The operation of trams in the region have not occurred in Preston since 1935, and the news comes after a previous tram proposal was rejected last year.
The firm is due to submit another proposal to Preston City Council in December to ‘extend the line to the Red Scar industrial estate near junction 31A on the M6’.
If the plans are approved fee-paying journeys would be introduced after the completion of the extension.
