Management shake-up to save Newcastle £500,000

Newcastle City Council has announced management arrangement changes that will contribute £500,000 to meeting its budget shortfall.

Following a 26 per cent reduction in management posts over the last few years, the council’s Constitutional Committee has approved changes which will see the organisation restructured to be based on three principle directorates serving People, Place and Resources.

The new People, Place and Resources directorates will each be headed by a director, while two smaller divisions – operations, and assistant chief executives will also report to the chief executive, but will be led by lead assistant directors.

Pat Ritchie, chief executive of Newcastle City Council, said: “The council is a much smaller and more agile organisation than it was in the past and we will continue to ensure that our management arrangements keep pace with change and are fit for purpose.

“These changes will deliver significant savings in the next financial year, helping us to maintain frontline services for local people.”
