Council sets up lottery for charity and community groups

Cherwell District Council is planning to set up its own online lottery to raise money for local charities and community groups.

The lottery will provide money to voluntary and community groups which benefit people in the Cherwell area. 50 per cent of the proceeds will go to nominated organisations, with 10 per cent sent to the central fund which the council would allocate.

Six local authorities currently run community lotteries, with Aylesbury Vale District Council raising £65,000 in 2015.

Costing £3,000 to establish and £1,000 to run, tickets will cost £1 each and the lottery will have a guaranteed jackpot of £20,000.
