London has topped a chart of the most visited exhibition venues globally, in the 2016 AECOM and TEA Theme and Museum Index Report.
The report lists the 20 most visited museums around the globe from 2last year, with the findings showing that four of London’s attractions - the British Museum, the National Gallery, the Tate Modern and the Natural History Museum, were included in the list.
With the museums positioned at 6th, 8th, 10th and 13th respectively, London received the most entries alongside Washington DC which also bagged four spots on the table.
The British Museum attracted 6,420,000 visitors last year, the National Gallery attracted 6,263,000, the Tate Modern welcomed 5,839,000 visitors, while the Natural History Museum attracted 4,624,000.
Constructed by the Themed Entertainment Association (TEA) and the economics practice at global infrastructure services company AECOM, the living saw the National Museum of China in Beijing bag first place on the list, having attracted 7,550,000 visitors last year, while Washington DC’s National Air and Space Museum made second place with 7,500,000 visits and the Louvre in Paris was recognised in third place with 7,400,000 visits.
