Lib Peck, leader of Lambeth Council, has urged the government to commit funding for local authorities in order to fund fire safety work following the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
Having received no commitment from previous requests to the Department for Communities and Local Government, Peck has written again, highlighting an updated figure of £3.1 million as the amount invested in cladding testing, removal and other associated work that has been guided by government and the Fire Brigade as a response to the Grenfell Fire.
Lambeth has 122 medium and high rise council blocks and took immediate action to provide reassurance to our residents and to ensure that essential safety work was carried out.
Since the fire, the council has conducted Level 4 Fire Risk Assessments on the 27 high rise buildings which have some form of cladding, as well as sampling of all cladding from medium and high rise residential blocks.
