Sue Robb of 4Children talks to Julie Laughton and Alison Britton from the Department for Education about the role of childminders in delivering the 30 hours free entitlement.
The Foldable RIB
The Foldable RIB is a completely new generation of multi-purpose boat. The unique articulating joints are a worldwide patented solution that allow the boats to be packed down to less than one third of their operational size for easy stowage and transportation. The solid GRP hull with impressive dead rise and cleverly designed chines provide a very comfortable ride and a high level of performance that will satisfy even the most demanding user. The collars are made from Mirasol which has built in UV and mould inhibitors thus allowing prolonged exposure to harsh environments.
Each FRIB is supplied in a carry bag with four handles for easy handling by two persons. Simply open the bag, unfold the boat and inflate the chambers. Larger models have additional bolts that screw into the joints. Even the largest model with five separate chambers can be unpacked and ready for use in under 5 minutes. Simply open the valves and undo the bolts and the FRIB can be folded away in half the time it took to assemble. With the smallest model packing down to less than 95cm x 95cm x 45cm it can easily be transported in even the smallest vehicles without the requirement for a trailer or launching equipment.
Step aboard and you will be impressed with the stability. Even on the smallest model the crew can safely step on the collar and easily step down into the FRIB. Moving around the boat and transporting and deploying equipment can be done with confidence on what feels like a solidly planted platform. Underway you will notice that they get on the plane quickly and easily and provide a very dry ride even in high speed tight turns. The very grippy hull can confidently be operated at speed.
Due to the light weight and efficient hull design the FRIB can be operated at speed or extend your range with very small light outboards. A 6hp 4 stroke outboard weighing only 24kg will easily get even the shortest model to plane with one crew member. An 18kg electric outboard will propel even the shortest model at WOT for ranges in excess of 5 miles.
The FRIB is already in use with Rescue Services. They are so light and compact they are carried inside rescue SAR helicopters operating in mountainous terrain in Russia and aboard larger RIBs to operate in shallow water where the mothership might struggle in the UK. Available in a range from 2.75 to 4.3 metres for up to 6 crew.
